Canon PowerShot A610

Canon PowerShot A610

The features of the 5-megapixel PowerShot A610 are almost identical to those of the 7-megapixel PowerShot A620.

The camera is compact, relatively inexpensive ($261 -$299) and is equipped with a robust set of exposure controls. The 5-megapixel CCD is ideal for those who like large prints. The camera also has full-automatic controls, as well as full-manual controls. The camera is a good choice for any photographer.

The silver case is stylish and the camera has 2 inches LCD panel. The PowerShot A610 is a little bulky (4.1 x 2.6 x 1.9 inches). The shutter release and the zoom control are placed in the front, so they are very easy to reach.

The Function button resides in the center of the four-way thumb buttons. It allows you to control the changing scenes and the lighting conditions very easily. The focal length starts at 35mm. The exposure modes are: Portrait, Night Scene, Landscape, Stitch Assist and Movie. There are also some special present modes available: Foliage, Beach, Snow, Underwater, Fireworks, Kids & Pets, Indoor and Night Snapshot. The Stitch Assist is actually the panorama shooting in which you can capture multiple horizontal overlapping images. The images are stitched together on a computer using software provided with the camera.

The movie mode is better than the predecessor’s and you can shoot 640 x 480 at 30 fps until you run out on the memory.

Some of the basic features include: 5.0- megapixel CCD (up to 2,592 x 1,944 pixels resolution), 2.0 inches LCD, optical viewfinder, 4x digital zoom, auto and manual focus, full automatic programs, eleven special scene modes, f/2.8 to f/8.0, shutter speed from 1/2500 to 15 seconds, built-in flash and many special features.

The application provided together with the camera allows you to manage, download and edit the photos. The Remote Shooting application allows you to control the camera’s settings from the computer (the camera is connected via USB) and the images are transferred directly to the computer. It’s a very handy tool for indoor photographers.
