Canon PowerShot A510
Canon PowerShot A510 produces great images and performs nicely. As a successor to PowerShot A75, the new A510 is smaller and lighter and has a lot of automatic features great for the beginners. It also has a complete set of manual controls for those who want to take professional photos.
The 3-magapixel camera shares all the features with the 4-megapixel A520 camera, except that A510 offers a 3.2x digital zoom. The camera is little chunky (8 ounces and 3.6 x 2.5 x 1.5 inches dimensions) but for prices ranging from $160 to $200, it offers an 1.8 inches LCD, 35mm to 140 mm zoom lens and uses either auto focus or manual focus.
It has shutter and aperture priority modes, which are very easy to use, while in full manual mode the shutter speeds vary from 15 seconds to 1/2,000 seconds and f-stops ranging from f/2.6 to f/8. It includes modes such as Portrait, Night Scene, Landscape, Slow Shutter, Fast Shutter (sports) and Stitch Assist (panorama) as well as six special scene modes including Foliage, Snow and Kids & Pets.
Compared to A520, the images taken with A510 have better detail and less purple fringing. The flash tones are also more accurate.
With the set of special effects offered, Sepia, Low Sharpening, Vivid, Black & White and Neutral, and with its low prices, A510 is a great choice for anyone.
